In conversation with Tanjina Ashraf Khan Mou. The global conversation around mental health has been gaining momentum, reflecting a growing recognition of its importance. However, there is still a long way to go in breaking down the stigma and ensuring that mental health is looked at with the same seriousness as physical health. Furthermore, just as there is rigorous screening for medical professionals, a thorough process for hiring qualified and empathic mental health professionals is crucial so that along with conversations, clients’ faith can also increase. Support for mental health must extend beyond clinical tools and impersonal advice, particularly within…

With both a city and an island bearing the name, Cebu is a worthwhile holiday destination in the Philippines – one that’s relatively affordable and always beautiful. With so many islands scattered across the Philippines archipelago, visitors are faced with a very pleasant dilemma in choosing an island on which to holiday. There are just so many, the problem lies in narrowing the choice down from the multitude of opportunities. Easy access is one of the criteria, but there are numerous domestic flights from the gateway international airport of Manila to many parts of the country. Cebu (not to be…
While some may be taking it in their stride, it’s clear the dramatic increase in diesel prices has many local drivers fuming. Plenty of Malaysian drivers expressed outrage on Monday after diesel prices surged more than 50% overnight. The government slashed subsidies, pushing the price from RM2.15 to RM3.35 per litre. This move was largely aimed to curb rampant fuel smuggling into Thailand, which cost the government RM4 billion annually. However, Sabah and Sarawak were exempt from this price hike. Civil servant Hanif Abdul Razak is now considering selling his seven-seater SUV due to the rising costs. “I’m not ‘uber…
The new diesel price was announced as RM3.35 per litre, up from the previous subsidised price of RM2.15 per litre. In a press conference today (June 9), Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan announced a new diesel price of RM3.35 per litre, with effect from midnight (June 10). This price, reflecting market conditions without subsidies, is based on the May 2024 average using the automatic pricing mechanism formula. The diesel price will be reviewed on a weekly basis. Additionally, Amir revealed that 30,000 private diesel vehicle owners from the B40 category would receive RM200 under the Budi Madani subsidy programme…
For a fascinating and altogether different way to explore Indonesia’s wonder, embark on a train journey across the island of Java. My first rail journey across the Indonesian island of Java was on Christmas Day in 1989, when I boarded a train from Yogyakarta for what I thought would be Jakarta. The journey started well with a reasonably small but comfortable seat in the fan-cooled carriage, along with a handful of other passengers. As the train proceeded westward across Indonesia’s (and the world’s) most populous island, it made regular stops for passengers to board the train. Sadly, no one alighted…
