For the third consecutive year, POWIIS successfully organised the World Scholar’s Cup Malaysia Round, Penang. The first of two Malaysian qualifying rounds in their annual calendar, the Malaysia Round Penang saw 376 young scholars from 20 secondary schools across Malaysia competing over the weekend of 26-27 March in four team events, namely debate, writing challenge, quiz challenge, and quiz bowl. Driven by its success so far, Marlborough College Malaysia is building a new Preparatory School building. It is incredible to contemplate, in hindsight, what a team of 17 learners can achieve over six months of sweat and toil. On the 4th of March, the third annual session of NISPMUN took off, welcoming 207 delegates for a total of around 230 people from all over the country to a three-day conference that has become the hallmark of Model United Nations at Nexus. The opening ceremony, symbolised by the memorable aesthetics which marked the conference, was kicked off by inspiring addresses from both Nexus’s Principal and its Head of Secondary. The atmosphere of academic discourse was palpable as one strolled between the seven committees packed with delegates in suits and dresses, discussing global issues which affected the lives of others.…
On the 9th of March at 6am, 18 Prince of Wales Island boarders and 9 day pupils travelled to Weld Quay to observe the partial solar eclipse. With the aim of promoting Science and Mathematics, the organisers, Penang Science Cluster, arranged a few simple hands-on activities to help educate the students as well as the public to understand the natural phenomenon of a solar eclipse. Many activities included how to use the pin-hole reflecting mirror to project the image of the sun for safe viewing, observing the sun through a properly configured telescope, and trying the experiment of standing eggs. Prince of Wales Island International School hosted the St Christopher’s International Primary School (SCIPS) Athletics Meet on 19th February. The event included 200 students from SCIPS, Dalat International School, The International School of Penang (Uplands), and The British International School, Kuala Lumpur. Under brilliant sunny skies, all the students and parents enjoyed the extensive facilities. After the event all shared an enjoyable BBQ and ice cream feast.
